Should you exfoliate in the summer?
Exfoliation should never be skipped during summer as your skin tends to sweat more during this time of year (duh!). Exfoliation also makes sure that it will deeply clean and will thoroughly remove product buildup from products you use throughout the day – such products are heavy moisturizers and sunscreen.
Exfoliation is the skincare term to remove dead skin cells, dirt, oil, and grime mechanically or chemically off your skin. Our skin naturally exfoliates every 30 days to regenerate new healthy skin cells. However, there are times when the skin does not fully shed dead skin cells resulting in rough, dry, clogged, and patchy dead skin cells. Exfoliating will help your skin achieve its fully regenerated glowing self.
So how does exfoliation help your skin during summer?

So how does exfoliation help your skin during summer?
As we all know, our skin is more prone to get oily and sweaty during the summer months. The extra oil, sweat, and dirt can clog the pores and lead to acne. Adding a layer of makeup to your oily skin would only contribute to more clogging if you do not regularly exfoliate. Exfoliation prepares your skin so you can flaunt it during your summer vacation. That means no more strawberry legs, less visible cellulite and stretch marks, and bright glowing skin.
How often should you exfoliate?
Exfoliating regularly is important for skin cell regeneration but be careful not to overdo it. Over-exfoliation may result in dry, dehydrated, and peeling skin. As important as exfoliating is to get dewy glowing skin, moisturization and hydration should not be neglected. For best results, exfoliate 2-3 times a week and moisturize every day (AM & PM!).
For a simple summer skin routine – use a gentle cleanser, scrub, moisturize, and apply sunscreen. There are two types of exfoliation methods (physical and chemical exfoliation). Physical exfoliation involves mechanical or manual methods using tools such as body brush, sponge, sea salt and sugar body scrubs. While chemical exfoliation involves using acids and chemical exfoliants such as AHAs (Alpha Hydroxy Acids) and BHAs (Beta Hydroxy Acids). How to exfoliate effectively
Using an exfoliating body scrub, apply the product onto the skin in circular motion for 30-40 seconds before rinsing it off with lukewarm water. Check for open wounds and cuts and be sure to avoid these areas. It is best to use a body scrub a day after shaving your legs to remove dead skin cells and avoid ingrown hairs.
When using a dry brush, lightly but firmly scrub in circular motion on dry skin on the whole body for 5 minutes each section to increase blood flow circulation, reduce cellulite, and drain lymphatic fluid.

Should you exfoliate your scalp too?
The scorching summer sun can get pretty hot and neglecting to exfoliate your scalp can lead to dandruff, dull, smelly, and oily hair. To prevent your hair from product buildup and dandruff, use a clarifying shampoo like Pure Biology’s Premium Reviva Shampoo and massage on to the scalp then rinse thoroughly. Pair it with a hydrating conditioner from Pure Biology for soft and bouncy locks.
