An oily scalp can make your hair look greasy even after just a few hours of washing. This can also make your hair look flat and sticky — which no one wants. But why do some people’s scalps produce more oil than others? There are several factors that come into play such as your genetics, lifestyle, or medical condition. So how do you control the excessive oil? Here’s how:
One solution to help combat the oily scalp is to use a clarifying shampoo. It is designed to cleanse deeply into the roots to remove impurities and excess oil buildup. But the question is, how often do you need to use this type of shampoo? Here’s a guide:
Note: When using a clarifying shampoo, pay attention to how your hair responds. Be careful not to overuse it, because it might dry out your hair or completely strip off the natural oil.
Another thing you can do when you have oily hair is to double cleanse with regular shampoo twice a week. Double cleansing is as simple as it sounds — shampooing twice and then following up with a conditioner. Shampooing twice can help remove the leftover hair product residue on your scalp. This is especially beneficial for those with oily and greasy hair. However, this is not recommended for people with dry or coiled hair as it may strip the hair’s natural oil.
Curly hairs tend to be on the dry side and doesn’t need frequent washing. If this is your hair type, focus on products that moisturize your strands without weighing them down. Avoid volumizing shampoo as it may dry out your strands even more.
Recommended shampoo ingredients for curly hair:
1. Shea Butter – Shea butter is an excellent ingredient to help seal in moisture and prevent fizziness. Full of fatty acids and vitamin E, shea butter can hydrate the strands and protect them from breakage.
2. Jojoba Oil – Jojoba not only helps balance the scalp, but it also helps define curls and maintain moisture. People with type 3 hair will greatly benefit from using jojoba oil.
3. Argan oil – Argan oil helps add shine to curly hair. Argan oil is rich in Vitamin E, fatty acids, and antioxidants that lock in moisture to the strands making your curls easier to manage.
4. Coconut oil – Coconut oil is one of the most popular hair ingredients for hair care. This wonderful ingredient acts as a conditioner and reduces protein loss in your curls — making it stronger and more defined.

The key to finding the best shampoo for normal hair is to look for a formula that will effectively cleanse your hair without stripping natural oils. Look for shampoos that contain gentle ingredients like aloe vera, chamomile, and lavender to nourish and soothe your scalp.
Additionally, opt for products that are free from harsh chemicals like sulfates and parabens. Some great options to consider include the Aveeno Pure Renewal Shampoo, the L'Oreal Paris EverPure Sulfate-Free Moisture Shampoo, and the OGX Coconut Milk Shampoo. Avoid washing your hair too frequently to keep your locks looking healthy and vibrant.

]]>Wondering how to stop early aging and maintain a youthful complexion? We’ve got the answers for you. Read on!
The best way to prevent aging is by tackling it early on. Many starts using anti-aging products in their early 20s, others start in their 40s or early 50s. When it comes to taking care of your skin, there is no certain age at which you need to abide by — though it is easier to prevent skin aging than to reverse it.
Even kids as early as 12 years old should know the importance of healthy skin. Teaching them simple methods like face washing, sunscreen, and moisturizing can be a good start to better skin health.
Fine lines and wrinkles appear as you age, and your once youthful-looking skin begins to lose its elasticity and glow. When it comes to skincare products, here are some ingredients to consider to fight the early signs of aging:
Peptides are one of the most popular skincare ingredients in the market. This is because peptides keep the skin barrier strong and help stimulate collagen production. This helps make the skin look firmer and more supple.
Coenzyme Q10 has antioxidant properties that fight oxidative stress and free radicals that can potentially harm the skin and accelerate aging. Some studies suggest that CoQ10 helps in the reduction of wrinkles and helps maintain healthy skin smoothness and elasticity.
Retinoid is a compound derived from Vitamin A and is used for diminishing the appearance of wrinkles and fine lines. Another benefit of this ingredient is that it helps lighten dark spots, boost collagen production, and unclog pores. We advise you start with a low dosage once or twice a week and increase from there.
It is best to consult with your dermatologist before combining it with your other skincare products.
According to a 2017 study, Vitamin C may help improve the appearance of wrinkles and fine lines on the face and neck. It has also been shown to help protect the skin from UV rays.
According to a clinical trial in 2005, topical niacinamide or Vitamin B3 has been shown to help improve the appearance of hyperpigmentation, blotchiness, fine lines and wrinkles.
Another emerging anti-aging skincare ingredient is AHAs, or Alpha hydroxy acids. A journal published in 2012 suggested that the benefits of AHA’s for the skin are moisturization, collagen synthesis, dark spot lightening, and firming of the skin.
Cleansing is always the first step in any skincare routine. Start by removing the excess oil and dirt you accumulated throughout the day.
When choosing a facial cleanser, avoid harsh chemicals, sulfates and alcohol, which can strip the skin of its natural oils, leading to dryness and fine lines. Instead, look for nourishing ingredients like antioxidants and peptides that help to maintain the skin's natural moisture balance.
Exfoliation is the process of removing dead skin cells from the surface of the skin. As we age, our skin's ability to shed dead skin cells slows down, leading to a dull, tired-looking complexion. Exfoliating regularly can help brighten and smoothen the skin while also reducing the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles.
There are two main types of exfoliants: physical and chemical.
Physical exfoliants work by physically removing dead skin cells from the skin's surface. Scrubs, washcloths, brushes, and exfoliating gloves are all physical exfoliants. Chemical exfoliants, on the other hand, use ingredients like alpha-hydroxy acids (AHAs) and beta-hydroxy acids (BHAs) to dissolve dead skin cells and unclog pores.
When selecting an exfoliant, it's important to consider your skin type and sensitivity. If you have sensitive skin, opt for a gentle exfoliant that contains fine grains or mild enzymes. If you have oily or acne-prone skin, a chemical exfoliant that contains salicylic acid may be more effective.
Be careful not to over-exfoliate, as this can lead to irritation and sensitivity. For most people, exfoliating once or twice a week is enough.
Look for products that contain hyaluronic acid, glycerin, or ceramides, which help to lock in moisture and keep the skin plump and supple. These ingredients work by attracting water to the skin and preventing it from evaporating.
In addition to using a moisturizer, it's also important to hydrate from the inside out. Drinking plenty of water and eating a diet rich in fruits and vegetables can help to keep the skin hydrated and healthy.
One of the most significant contributors to making yourself look older is sun damage. UV rays from the sun can break down collagen and elastin — two proteins that are essential for maintaining youthful-looking skin.
To protect your skin from sun damage, use sunscreen every day, even on cloudy or rainy days. Look for a broad-spectrum sunscreen that protects against both UVA and UVB rays, with an SPF of 30 or higher.
Reapply sunscreen every two hours, or more frequently if you are swimming or sweating. In addition to sunscreen, it's a good idea to wear protective clothing and stay in the shade during peak sun hours.
At night when you sleep, your skin cells undergo a process of repair and rejuvenation, producing new healthy skin cells that help reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles.
Getting at least eight hours of sleep each night can help to promote healthy skin. If you struggle with getting enough sleep, try establishing a regular bedtime routine, avoiding caffeine and electronics before bedtime, and creating a dark and quiet sleep environment.
Maintaining a youthful complexion requires a combination of good skincare habits and healthy lifestyle choices. Investing in a skincare routine from an early age can help protect the skin from premature aging. Remember: Skincare isn’t one-size-fits-all. Taylor your skincare routine to your specific needs. By incorporating these tips into your routine, you can help to promote healthy, youthful-looking skin for years to come!

Here are some dos and don'ts of hair care you NEED to watch out for with damaged hair:
When it comes to washing damaged hair, it’s essential to use gentle shampoo. Look for a shampoo that’s formulated specifically for damaged or dry hair and avoid products with harsh chemicals like sulfates and parabens. Sulfates strip the hair of natural oil, which is essential to keep it moisturized and soft. Avoid sulfates, especially if you have dry, damaged, or dyed hair.
Conditioning is crucial for repairing and restoring damaged hair. After shampooing, apply a deep conditioning treatment to your hair, focusing on the ends, where damage is often the most severe. Leave the conditioner in for a few minutes before rinsing thoroughly. For even more intensive conditioning, use a hair mask once a week to nourish and repair your strands.
Our Recommendation for Damaged and Thinning Hair:
When your hair is damaged, it’s more prone to breakage. To avoid breakage, use a wide-tooth comb to gently work out any tangles or knots in sections, starting at the ends and then working your way up to the roots. Using a wide-tooth comb makes it easier to detangle knots and have less friction than a normal or fine-tooth comb.
If you can’t live without heat styling tools, make sure to use a heat protectant before styling your hair. This will help minimize damage and prevent further breakage. Want to curl your hair with a heatless option? Check out this article: Lazy Girl's Guide to Achieve Heatless Curls
If your hair is damaged, it’s essential to trim your ends regularly to get rid of split ends and prevent further damage from traveling up the hair shaft. Aim to trim your hair every 6-8 weeks to keep your hair looking healthy and vibrant. Can’t decide if you’re in desperate need of a haircut? Check out this guide: 10 Signs You Need a Haircut ASAP
While heat styling tools can be useful for achieving the perfect hairstyle, they can also cause significant damage. Try to limit your use of heat styling tools as much as possible and opt for heat-free styling techniques like air-drying, braiding, or hair rollers.
Hot water can be incredibly dehydrating to your hair, causing it to become dry and brittle. Instead, use lukewarm or cool water when washing your hair to minimize damage and keep your hair looking healthy and vibrant.
When your hair is wet, it’s much more vulnerable to breakage. If you need to detangle your hair, use a wide-tooth comb or a brush specifically designed for use on wet hair.
While it’s essential to keep your hair clean, over washing can be damaging and strip away natural oils, leading to dryness and breakage. Aim to wash your hair no more than once every other day, or even less frequently if your hair is particularly dry or damaged.
If you have damaged hair, it’s best to avoid harsh chemical treatments like perms, relaxers, or bleach. These treatments can cause significant damage to your hair, exacerbating dryness and breakage. If you must use chemical treatments, make sure to do so sparingly and seek the advice of a professional hairstylist.
Repairing damaged hair can be a long journey, but with these hair habits, you can restore your hair to its natural health. Good luck!

Do you have a specific skin concern or just simply want to give your skin a little extra pampering? Regular facial treatments can help you with that. Let’s explore 7 important benefits of getting regular facial treatments.
Facial treatments provide a deep cleanse and exfoliation for your skin. A skilled esthetician will use specialized tools and techniques to remove impurities and dead skin cells seated deeply into your skin that a cleanser could not reach, leaving your skin looking and feeling fresh and radiant. This can help to unclog pores, reduce the appearance of blackheads, whiteheads, and prevent future breakouts.
If you don’t have the option to go to an aesthetician regularly, you may also use a facial scrub weekly to scrub off excess oil and prevent dirt buildup. Check out this charcoal facial polish from M3 Naturals:
Many facial treatments include hydrating ingredients and techniques, such as using moisturizing masks and serums. This type of treatment is particularly important for those with dry or dehydrated skin, as it can help reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles and leave your skin looking plump and youthful.
Look for a facial treatment that can help stimulate collagen and promote skin cell regeneration. Check out this hydro facial from @cosmeticswithfarah:

Facial treatments often include massage techniques, which can help to improve circulation and lymphatic drainage in your face. This can help reduce puffiness and dark circles and leave your skin brighter and more refreshed.
Regular facial treatments can also help to reduce the signs of aging. This is because they can help to stimulate collagen production and improve skin elasticity, which can help to reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. Some facial treatments also include help to protect your skin from damage caused by free radicals and environmental stressors.
When you visit an esthetician for a facial treatment, they will often analyze your skin and customize the treatment to your specific needs. This can be especially helpful for those with complex or chronic skin issues, such as acne or rosacea.
Facial treatments are not just beneficial for your skin - they can also be a great way to relieve stress and promote relaxation. Many facial treatments include facial massage, which helps release tension and promote relaxation. Being pampered and cared for can be a great way to boost your mood and overall well-being.
Facial treatments can help treat acne, reduce blemishes, and tone down hyperpigmentation. One example of this is the Jet Plasma Facial Treatment. This non-surgical and non-evasive procedure uses a pen or a tool that kills acne-causing bacteria and tightens pores to lessen the appearance of scars, wrinkles, and help stimulate collagen production.

Regular facial treatments offer a wide range of benefits for your skin, from deep cleansing and exfoliation to increased hydration and reduced signs of aging. Whether you have specific skin concerns or simply want a little extra TLC, facial treatments can be an excellent addition to your skincare routine. Remember to choose a reputable esthetician or spa, and to communicate your needs and concerns clearly to ensure that you receive the best possible treatment for your skin.

Keep your eye cream in the refrigerator or apply a cold compress to your eyes for a few minutes. The coolness will help to constrict blood vessels and reduce swelling.
Cucumbers have a cooling and soothing effect on the skin and can help to reduce puffiness and dark circles. Place cucumber slices over your closed eyes for 10-15 minutes and feel the difference.
This helps improve circulation and reduces puffiness. Use your ring fingers to apply light pressure in a circular motion around your eyes, taking care not to pull or tug at the delicate skin.
Tea contains tannins that have a natural astringent effect on the skin. Soak two tea bags in warm water for a few minutes, remove and let them cool, then place them over your closed eyes for 10-15 minutes. We recommend tea or chamomile tea!
Lack of sleep is one of the biggest causes of eye puffiness, so make sure you’re getting enough rest. Aim for 7-8 hours of sleep each night and try to maintain a consistent sleep schedule.
Drinking enough water can help to flush out toxins and reduce puffiness in the eyes. Aim for at least 8 glasses of water per day and avoid dehydration by drinking water throughout the day.
When sleeping, elevate your head with an extra pillow or two. This will help to reduce the accumulation of fluid around your eyes and prevent puffiness.
A saline solution can help to reduce puffiness by flushing out excess fluid. Mix a small amount of salt with warm water and apply it to a clean cloth. Place the cloth over your closed eyes for 10-15 minutes.
You can use a cold spoon, a bag of frozen peas, or a chilled cloth as a cold compress. Simply place the compress over your closed eyes for a few minutes and repeat as needed.
Caffeine is known to have a stimulating effect on the skin and can help to reduce puffiness. Look for an eye cream that contains caffeine and apply it gently around your eyes each morning and evening.

The barbie ponytail is iconic for its straight ultra-high updo (usually on top of your crown) and is often styled by flipping the ends of your strands. This hairstyle is cute and fun but also gives off a sophisticated vibe due to its simple and sleek appearance. Perfect for any occasion!
Different variations of this hairstyle can be achieved by adding deep side bangs, a ribbon, a hairband, or by styling your edges. Ariana Grande is famous for this type of hairstyle (she’s actually been sporting this look for a while now!). Check out how she made it look vintage and classy by adding a ribbon:
This hairstyle is easy to do and only takes a few minutes (perfect for when you’re running late!). Follow the instructions below:
Step 1: Brush and gather all your hair into a high ponytail (on top of the crown). You might need to use 2 elastics to make sure it’s secure and bundled.
Step 2: Make sure the front is sleek and no unruly hairs are coming out of the ponytail. If you have bangs, part them deeply to one side.
Step 3 (Optional): Grab a flat iron, straightener, or a curling wand and curl the ends outward.

If your hair and scalp aren’t smelling great, the first thing you need to do is to identify the cause. Here are a few things to watch out for:
If you think you have any of these problems, it is best to consult your dermatologist to treat the issue. However, if your hair odor is less serious, you may want to try these tips below...
When was the last time you washed your hair? One common cause of hair odor is not washing your hair enough. Shampoo helps remove dirt, excess oil, and bacteria from your scalp and hair. Don’t know how often to wash it? Check out this article: How Often Should You Wash Hair Based On Your Hair Type?
Apply your favorite leave-in conditioner at night and lightly massage it on your hair and scalp. This can help make your hair smell amazing in the morning. Fruity scents and vanilla are the most popular scents for when you want to smell sweet while lavender is popular for its floral aroma. Look for these ingredients for when you want to pick a new leave in the conditioner.
Another trick to smelling expensive is to use your favorite perfume on your hair. But don’t spray it on directly! Most perfumes contain alcohol that can dry out the hair. Instead, spritz a few times on your hairbrush and comb it through your hair. This can make your hair smell amazing for hours!
There are times when you don’t have the time to wash your hair. So, how can you make it smell amazing?
Running late and want a quick fix? Use a blow dryer. You may also spray a hair mist or perfume to make it smell great.
Scented dry shampoo can help make your hair smell nice and soak up excess oil. However, this is not a permanent solution. Dry shampoo can cause buildup on your hair, so be sure to deeply cleanse after a dry shampoo day.
If you shave, you probably experienced razor bumps in your life. The worse, right? They can make your skin look rough and irritated. Worry not. There is a way to banish those annoying razor bumps. Keep reading below.
Razor bump (medically known as pseudofolliculitis barbae) is a skin condition that results in inflammation of the skin from shaving, waxing, or plucking. It happens when ingrown hair curls inwards and gets trapped — causing a red bump that resembles a tiny acne.
It can happen on the legs, face, armpit, arms, and pubic area. While it usually resolves on its own within 2 to 3 weeks after shaving, there are ways for you to prevent or get rid of it faster. Read below.
Exfoliating before you shave is an effective way to remove dead skin cells and loosen up trapped hair inside the skin. Exfoliating can also make your razor glide smoother on your skin, preventing you from getting nicked.

This year, start your skin care journey the right way! It’s time to let go of bad habits and take the opportunity to refresh and restart. Here are 5 important skin resolutions to try:
Whether you see the sun every day or experience winter all throughout the year, applying sunscreen is important in protecting your skin from the harmful UV rays of the sun. Did you know that UV lights can cause photodamage and cellular DNA changes? That means you might be at risk of developing early signs of aging such as wrinkles, fines lines, or dark spots!
Believe it or not, UV rays can penetrate through the cloud and are present year-round. So using sunscreen, even without the scorching sun, can cause skin damage. To avoid this, apply sunscreen every day and give your skin a layer of protection.
Make up wipes are a fast and convenient way to remove your makeup. However, make-up wipes are designed to remove your makeup but not clean it. They’re NOT cleansers and shouldn’t be treated as such. You might think your skin is clean after wiping off your makeup, however, these wipes leave dirt and residue that may cause acne from bacteria on your skin. Some makeup wipes also contain harsh chemicals that disrupt the skin’s natural barrier.
Read more about it in this article: Why Makeup Wipes Suck and 5 Reasons Not To Use It
If you’re not getting a regular facial, then you’re missing out. Visiting an esthetician or a dermatologist every 4-6 weeks can help you take care of skin concerns before they become a real problem.
Skincare only really works if you’re consistent. Taking care of your skin is a continuous process, not a one-time transformation. Find a routine that works and stick with it in 2023!
Probably the cheapest and most neglected skincare hack hydration. Hydrating your skin helps improve your skin’s elasticity and keeps the skin plump and moisturized. According to some experts, people who drink plenty of water are less likely to develop scars, wrinkles, and fine lines. Drinking plenty of water also flushes out toxins and improves the skin’s pH balance.

5 skincare tips to reset your skin and combat the post-holiday skincare woes:
What’s one thing everyone has in common after spending a night out partying? — dark circles. Dark circles are more evident in the morning after a party because too much caffeine and alcohol can dehydrate the skin and make it look dark and sunken. Salty food can also retain excess body fluid and make your eyes look puffy in the morning.
The solution? Drink plenty of water and use caffeine eye cream to lighten dark undereye and reduce puffiness. According to a 2015 study, caffeine helps stimulate blood flow around the eyes which can help the skin look rejuvenated. It also has antioxidant properties that can help in the reduction of wrinkles and dark circles.
If you have time before bed, be sure to apply this Caffeine Eye Cream at night. If you don’t have the energy to do so, you can apply this in the morning to combat dark puffy undereye.

Your skin can easily get dehydrated after an all-night of fun.. Alcohol is a diuretic, meaning, it can remove its vital nutrients and fluids that are essential for maintaining healthy and supple skin.
The quickest and cheapest remedy for this is to drink plenty of water to hydrate lost fluid and flush out toxins in your body. Keep your skin moisturized by applying Pure Biology Night Cream for intense hydration and a collagen boost.

Skin hangover happens when you consume a huge amount of salt, sugary drinks, and little to no sleep. This makes the skin look ghostly and sunken. In some cases, it can also trigger acne breakouts.
Here’s how to cure a hangover skin:
1. Hit up the bed and turn off your alarm. Give yourself time to sleep so the skin can naturally repair itself.
Try these:
Coconut water: A good source of electrolytes that get lost during a night of partying or drinking.
Ginger tea: Boil water and add fresh ginger to make this tea. You can add honey and a slice of lemon to add more flavor.
Tomato detox juice: Blend tomatoes, celery, and carrots to give your body a nutritional boost and cleanse your stomach.
The stress and food we eat during the holiday can catch up to us and the effect can be evident on our skin. If you are not careful, you may experience an acne breakout that can bring down your holiday spirit. Here are some ways to fight it off:

One of the most neglected parts of our skin is the lips. If you often have dry chapped lips, it is important to exfoliate and apply a moisturizing lip balm to keep this area moisturized. Do not lick your lips! It will only cause it to be drier and chapped. Instead, use a moisturizing lip balm like M3 Natural’s lip butter.

Your scalp health and hair growth are linked. A 2018 study suggested that scalp exfoliation plays a helping hand in keeping the hair fuller and controlling the progression of thinning hair. The study also suggested that exfoliation can help control Malassezia, a scalp fungus that damages the hair follicles and when left untreated may cause hair loss.
Scalps are prone to dandruff due to excessive use of products (one culprit may be your dry shampoo!). This condition can cause the scalp to flake and cause uncomfortable itchiness. One of the solutions to clarify the scalp is exfoliation. This method removes dirt, excess oil, sweat, and product buildup that clogs the pores of your scalp.
It is important to listen to what your hair and scalp are telling you. Doing so will prevent future issues from immerging and you will be thankful for the results.
Did you know that a simple scrubbing can help boost blood flow to your scalp? Most people don't realize how amazing proper blood circulation is for your hair health. During the anagen phase, also known as the “growth phase”, your hair and scalp need nutrients and oxygen for new hair follicles to grow and thrive. Healthy blood circulation activates the blood vessels that supply nutrients from roots to tips — this in turn can lead to hair growth and shiny healthier hair.
Scalp exfoliation should be done once or twice a week, according to most experts. However, a scalp scrub is not for everybody. People with dandruff and oily hair may greatly benefit from this, but if you have conditions such as eczema and psoriasis, use caution. Check-in with your doctor to evaluate your condition to prevent the possibility of further aggravating your condition.
Here’s what you’ll need:
Instructions:
Mix all the ingredients until you get a paste-like consistency. Massage gently and apply to your scalp before shampooing.
Recipe from @haircareking, check out his TikTok below:
@haircareking DIY exfoliating scalp scrub made from all natural ingredients! A healthy scalp means healthy hair! #haircaretips #fyp #primedayshowpjparty #exfoliate ♬ Stay With Me - Calvin Harris, Justin Timberlake, Halsey & Pharrell Williams
You can also use a scalp scrubber like this one from M3 Naturals. Most experts recommend scrubbing 1-2 times a week and should be massaged gently to prevent the scalp and hair follicles from getting stressed. Follow up with Pure Biology’s moisturizing shampoo and conditioner.
Scalp scrub offers plenty of benefits for your hair health. It is an easy and inexpensive way to exfoliate dead skin cells and let your hair follicles grow and thrive in a healthy environment. If you are suffering from dandruff or if you want to give your scalp much-needed care, then this is perfect for you. However, remember that taking care of your scalp is a continuous cycle and not a one-time fix. To see results, stay committed and consistent.

What if we tell you that the sequence in which you wash your hair can solve these issues? And that you may get an even bouncier and shinier locks if you try the reverse hair wash.
Curious what reserve hair wash is? Keep reading to know more!
Since you were a child, you were taught to shampoo first then conditioner after. Reverse hair-washing is the opposite: condition first then shampoo after. This technique is said to help detangle strands and prevent product buildup and residue.
You may be thinking, “What’s the point of using a conditioner if you are going to wash it off with shampoo?”. The idea of this technique is to coat your hair with the nourishing and moisturizing properties of a hair conditioner then wash off (not rinse) the residue or excess product with a gentle shampoo. This method does not completely wash off the conditioner. Rather, it only removes the excess that can make your scalp greasy, weigh down your hair, and flatten your locks.
Reverse washing is great for fine hair, thin, limp hair, heat or color-damaged hair, or oily hair.
Conditioner gives extra softness and protection to your strands. However, some conditioners can weigh down your hair if you don’t wash it properly. Reverse washing can help clean your roots with shampoo and remove the extra conditioner residue while also keeping your hair soft and moisturized. Experts do not recommend reverse washing for curly, thick, or coarse hair. Try co-washing instead!
Apply your conditioner from the scalp to the ends of your hair and massage for a few minutes. Make sure to get all the strands and focus on areas that have less nourishment. Try using a scalp massager like M3 naturals’ scalp scrubber for a therapeutic and relaxing experience. After 3-5 minutes, move to step 2.

You can use this hair-washing technique as much as you like. Some people find it makes their hair less greasy, so they lessen the time they wash their hair. Experiment with how often you wash your hair with this to better fit your hair and scalp needs.
The benefit of reverse hair washing is that it can remove hair residue better and keep your hair soft and bouncy. If you have thin or oily hair, give it a try!

With the rise of celebrity skincare routines and intricate 10-step skin regimens, most beauty enthusiasts have formed a habit of layering skincare products. The concept of “skin cycling”, however, is the opposite. Read on to find out more.
Skin cycling is a 4-day nighttime skincare routine where you use active ingredients before letting your skin go into a recovery period. The goal is to treat your skin concerns such as acne, uneven skin tone, and clogged pores during the “on days” while also providing your skin time to heal and recuperate from all the active skincare ingredients during the “off days”.
One of the benefits of skin cycling is to give the skin time to breathe during its “rest day” to help repair itself and regenerate new skin cells. This is perfect if your skin is acting up or if your skin is starting to look dull. Another important benefit of this routine is that it helps ease your skin into using active ingredients like retinol, ceramides, niacinamide, or hyaluronic acid (especially if you are new to using such). Skin cycling lessens the chance of you experiencing side effects and irritation from these products. Lastly, it’s easy to follow and won’t need a huge amount of effort!
Keep reading to learn how.
One of the reasons the skin looks dull is because of dead skin cells that clog the pores. Exfoliating to clean away dirt, excess oil, and dead skin cells is the first step to skin cycling. On the first night, wash your face with a gentle facial cleanser and pat dry. Next, apply your chemical exfoliants such as BHA (beta-hydroxy acids) or AHA (alpha-hydroxy acids). Most experts recommend using chemical exfoliants for this step rather than physical exfoliants since most physical exfoliants tend to be rougher on the face’s skin. Finish it off with your favorite moisturizer.
The second night of skin cycling focuses on using retinoids or Vitamin A based skincare. According to the American Academy of Dermatology (ADD), retinoids are a powerhouse ingredient that contains potent anti-aging properties. Some of the benefits of retinoids are:
Most dermatologists recommend applying a hydrating cream to sensitive areas of the face such as the under eyes and the corners of your nose if especially if you have sensitive skin or are new to using retinoids. If your skin is dry after application, pat a gentle, unscented moisturizer on top. Make sure to apply retinoids on clean and fully dry skin (not even on damp skin since it can cause irritation).
The 3rd and 4th night of skin cycling is your skin’s time to recover and repair. Focus on rebuilding your skin barrier and restoring your skin’s microbiome. It’s all about moisturization and hydration. For this to work, start with freshly cleansed skin and apply a gentle moisturizer. Look for one that doesn’t have fragrance or irritating ingredients. Don’t exfoliate or use retinoids during these days to give your skin a break. To add more moisture and skin-repairing properties, look for hyaluronic acid, glycerin, or ceramides in the ingredients.
If you are experiencing sensitivity, add more rest days to your skin cycle routine. However, if your skin is well adjusted to retinoids or exfoliants, you can ramp up your routine by removing one rest day making it only a 3-day skin cycle. The important thing is consistency and commitment to your skin health to see results.
Remember, every skin type has different needs. Pay close attention to how your skin reacts to decide how many rest days you give yourself, and how long to practice skin cycling. You can always modify your skincare to best fit your needs.

Have you tried face steaming before? If not, then you’re missing out! This new TikTok trend is making a buzz in the skincare community. People say it “deeply” cleanses the pores and promotes younger-looking skin.
Imagine this POV...you eat a little too much sugar and dairy, and your skin breaks out. Your pores are clogged, and your skin feels heavy... would you give face steaming a chance?
Keep reading to learn about the benefits of face steaming and how to do it at home!
Steaming as a form of body relaxation and skin detox can be dated back to the Ancient Greek and Roman empires. However, the first face-steaming device was made in the 1900s and coined as a “Russian Steam Bath” but… what exactly is it?
Face steaming exposes your skin to steam using an at-home facial steamer device, a hot towel, or going for professional treatment. If you know how a sauna works, it should sound familiar. The steam should be warm enough that has a relaxing effect but not hot enough to the point of burning your skin. According to experts, the ideal temperature should be 43-degree Celsius or 110-degree Fahrenheit. Some facial home steamers come in different modes.
Check out this TikTok from @sydney_art to get an idea of what it looks like:
@sydney_art Have you ever used a facial steamer!?? 🤔 #makeuphacks #skincare #mua #fyp ♬ Monkeys Spinning Monkeys - Kevin MacLeod & Kevin The Monkey
Many experts believe that people with very sensitive skin should avoid face steaming. People with oily skin, however, can greatly benefit from it. Here’s a guide on how often you should face steam:
Deciding if you’re going to try face steaming? Check out these 6 benefits below:
People with oily skin tend to benefit most from face steaming. Steam can soften the top layer of the skin and help lose excess oil, dirt, and bacteria that cause acne. It is a great option to help with your exfoliation process. For a deeper cleanse, use an exfoliant after steaming and apply moisturizer afterward.
Steaming can give you a healthy natural flush. This is because the hot temperature can promote blood circulation and carry nutrients your skin needs. The boost of blood flow can give your skin a plump look and soften the skin. Give yourself a face massage while steaming for the ultimate relaxing and skin-boosting experience.
Steaming may also promote collagen production and elasticity since it can help pump blood flow to the blood vessels. Although there is no scientific research to back up this claim, some experts theorize that it has a certain connection to collagen production that makes the skin younger and bouncier.
Because steam opens your pores and helps clean away dirt and oil, products like retinol and Vitamin C are greatly absorbed and more effective after a session of face steaming. Remember to use a moisturizer to keep your skin moisturized and replace the lost moisture.
A very popular home remedy for unclogging the sinus is steam inhalation. The steam from the facial steamer can help decongest blocked nasal passages and give you instant relief. One way to do this at home without a face steamer device is to boil a bowl of water, cover your head with a towel, lean into the steam, and inhale.
Using a Facial Steamer:
1. Cleanse your face with a gentle facial cleanser
Without using a facial steamer:

Ever wondered why your skin looks firmer and clearer after a workout? It’s like the sweat is giving you a natural highlighter and the flush from a workout is giving you a rosy blush. But is the post-workout glow real? According to some experts… it is.
The post-workout glow may last for up to 12 hours after a sweaty workout. Working out increases blood circulation in the body which can be helpful in achieving glowing skin. Not only does it help firm the skin, but it also reduces cortisol (the stress hormone that increases glucose in the body) which can cause stress-related breakouts. Working out also helps flush out toxins in the body, stimulates new skin cells, and aids in collagen production which is why you are seeing a youthful glow after a workout.
Pilates can help improve blood circulation and tone the skin for a radiant glow. This easy and quick full-body workout by @briannajoye_fitness will make you sweat those fats and toxins away! Keep your skin firm by trying her routine in the video below:

It’s almost time to put on your best Halloween fits — but is your skin ready? Whether you are dressing up cute, sexy, or ultra-scary this Halloween, make sure that your skin is prepped for the spooky season! (And no, we don’t mean showing up with two layers of dark circles, un-showered, and still in your 3-day unwashed jammies)
This article will guide you on how to prep your skin for Halloween. Trick or Treat your skin and follow these instructions to avoid a Halloween skin disaster. Keep reading!
Prepping your skin is as important as finding the perfect Halloween costume. To do this, here are 3 important pre-Halloween skincare steps you need to follow:
The first step to getting the perfect canvas for your makeup is exfoliating. This removes excess oil, bacteria, and dead skin cells and will give you a smoother makeup application and ensure that you will avoid a cakey makeup mishap. Face and body exfoliation can help generate new skin cells. This helps you get smooth and glowing skin! Exfoliating 1-2 days before Halloween is recommended.
These might be just the right thing:
Do you need to moisturize before applying makeup? The answer is YES, you do. There are two main reasons:
1. It prevents your skin from looking dull and dry
Who wants cakey Halloween makeup? No one. (Unless you’re Cady attending her first Halloween party on Mean Girls). So, to avoid that, here’s what you need to do:

Before you put on your makeup or face paint, use a primer. Not only does primer give you the perfect base, but it can also blur out skin imperfections. You’ll be putting in a lot of effort and talent in your makeup, might as well make the look last longer with primer!

We all know that the ultraviolet (UV) rays of the sun can cause skin damage and premature aging. But did you know that your cell phone and computer may be as bad as sun tanning for too long? Let’s look at how your phone and other devices really affect your skin.
About 6.6 billion people are using smartphones for an average of 4.5 hours daily in 2022. An increase in device usage and screen time was seen especially during covid and may have caused device dependency among the millennials and gen z (thanks to apps like TikTok, Instagram, Facebook, and Zoom). It might be hard to stop yourself from unconsciously checking and scrolling through your phone. However, you may want to put down your devices, because not only do they disrupt your sleep cycle, but may also cause skin damage.
According to experts, your devices — mobile phones, tablets, computers, and televisions — emit a certain type of radiation called HEV (High Energy Visible Light) or “blue light”. Skin experts have warned that prolonged exposure to this light can weaken the skin’s surface and may cause inflammation, premature aging, or skin cancer. Although research is still in the works on how damaging it can be for the skin, many dermatologists have advised limiting screen time and using protective skincare to lessen the harmful effects of HEV or blue light from your phone and laptops.
Here are how mobile phones and other devices with blue light can wreak havoc on the skin:
According to research, mobile phones are 10 times dirtier than a toilet (ew!) and can transfer to your skin in a matter of seconds. Remember where you last put your phone down? You might not see how dirty your phone is, but your screen is harboring thousands of bacteria from where you last put it down — on a skink, a restaurant table, a public bathroom, you name it. These bacteria and dirt can transfer to your skin whenever you use your phone and touch your face. The result? Acne or allergies.
A 2020 randomized controlled trial found that blue light may induce photoaging and hyperpigmentation. Being glued to your screen or taking long calls that make your phone heat up can interfere with your melanin production, and as a result, may contribute to melasma or dark spots. Limiting your mobile use or using earphones can help minimize the possible skin damage from the blue light and heat from your phone.
Are you constantly squinting when looking at your phone or computer? Doing so may result in crow’s feet or wrinkles around the eyes. Constantly looking down at your phone may also trigger necklines and what we call “turkey neck.” It happens when collagen breakdown and the elasticity of the skin weakens resulting in saggy neck skin.
Here are a few ways you can combat HEV or blue light damage to your skin:

An oily scalp results from an overproduction of sebum. One reason some people have oilier scalps is because of genetics (totally unfair, we know). It’s also a deciding factor in the number of hair follicles you will have — yes, your parents or ancestors can affect the texture and how thin or thick your hair will be.
But how do genetics really come into play? The easiest explanation is that people with fine hair have more hair follicles than those with thick hair, thus, more oils are produced when you have fine hair. But this is not the only reason you are experiencing oily hair. Here are other contributing causes:
Our scalp naturally produces oil to keep our hair healthy. However, overproduction can be a sign that something is wrong. So, what can happen when your scalp overproduces sebum?
How often do you wash your hair? There is a decade-long debate on whether you should wash your hair often or less frequently for healthier hair. According to the American Academy of Dermatology (ADD), people with oily hair need to wash it once a day. Shampooing can help clean and clarify the scalp from excess oil, dirt, and sebum that may cause dandruff. You may want to try Pure Biology’s Premium Shampoo which is formulated with biotin and rosemary that helps gently remove oil buildup for a fresh and squeaky-clean scalp.
If you wash your hair every day and notice that it’s still greasy after the end of the day, then you might want to change the frequency of your hair-washing schedule. Over-washing can strip off natural oils, making your glands go on overdrive and produce more oil. How often you need to wash your hair can be tricky and would depend on varied factors such as the type of hair, its texture, or age. Read more about how often you should wash your hair based on your hair type here.
Chemical exfoliants such as glycolic acids or salicylic acids can be used as scalp exfoliants. Social media is swarming with creators sharing their method of scalp cleaning. Massaging glycolic or salicylic acid 1-2 times a week on your scalp (for 10 minutes) can help balance oil production and increase cell turnover. If you have oily scalp that tends to turn into crusty dandruff, you may want to try this out!
Check out this video from TikTok user @ottieelle on how she does it:
@ottieelle For all my oily girls out there ✌️ @The Ordinary. Glycolic acid solition does wonders ✨ #hairtok #hairhack #hairtutorial #hairtransformation ♬ on & on - piri & tommy
Using a scalp brush can help evenly distribute the oils to your strands so that it will not lay stagnant on your scalp. This multi-functional hair tool can also help reverse oil overproduction and increase blood flow on the scalp. We recommend this silicone brush from M3 Naturals which acts as an anti-cellulite brush and a scalp brush.
Conditioner shouldn’t be skipped even if you have an oily scalp. Cleansing conditioners such as our Pure Biology ACV Conditioner and Premium Hair Growth Conditioner help clarify the scalp from excess oil and dirt buildup. However, if you are using a different conditioner or if your hair is excessively oily, you should apply conditioners only on the strands and not on your scalp and remember to rinse thoroughly.
A temporary quick fix for oily hair would be to use dry shampoo! Just sprinkle it on your scalp and watch the greasiness be gone. However, be careful not to get addicted to it — this is not an alternative to shampoo. Experts recommend using it no more than 2 days a week to avoid scalp damage and hair loss.
This one might surprise you: Touching your hair and scalp frequently can cause oily hair. Oils and dirt from your hands can easily transfer to your scalp and hair. Don’t make a habit of touching your hair and scalp to avoid a greasy hair mishap.
Consume fewer foods that are high in carbohydrates and fat to tone down the overproduction of oil. For sebum control, add B vitamins such as B2 and B6 into your diet. Here are a few good examples:
Simple lifestyle habits like regularly washing your pillowcases can also help reduce hair oil. Try to change pillowcases at least once or twice a week.
B Vitamins help regulate sebum production and combat greasy scalp. Supplementing with B2, B6, or B7 (Biotin) is a must-try if you are experiencing hair and scalp problems. Biotin can also help with maintaining healthy hair follicles and stimulate hair growth. Try these LxH Biotin + Collagen gummies for the ultimate hair, skin, and nail protection.
If over-the-counter treatments don’t help or you’re developing uncontrollable dandruff or itchy scalp, consider booking an appointment with your dermatologist so they can properly assess your scalp health and treat the underlying issue.

In this article, we’ll review why we need collagen and what collagen-fueled food you can incorporate into your diet for smoother skin and healthier hair.
Collagen makes up the connective tissue which is a major component of our skin, bones, tendons, cartilage, and muscles. We produce less collagen as we age which can lead to weaker muscles, aging skin, brittle hair, and joint pain. This is exactly why consuming enough collagen-packed food is essential.
Aging cannot be prevented—BUT its effects of it can be minimized and delayed if you take early steps to combat it. If you want to prevent wrinkles and crepe-y skin; or if you’re worried about joint and muscle pain that comes as the years go, then read on.
One of the best sources of collagen (and the easiest to incorporate into your diet) is bone broth. Its collagen is derived from the bones of fish, meat, and beef. Drinking bone broth could provide extra collagen support which can help improve elasticity, hydration, and the appearance of the skin.
Bone broth is also rich in Vitamins A, B2, B12, E, K, calcium, omega-3 and 6, and other nutrients that both benefit your skin, joints, and bones. There are different pre-made bone broth options on the market, and you can easily make it at home if you prefer!
Here’s how:
Roast beef and chicken for 30 minutes. Add the bones into a pot and top it with water. For extra flavor — add in salt, pepper, carrots, mushrooms, celery, onions, a bit of apple cider vinegar, and garlic (or any vegetables or spices you like in a soup). Let it simmer for 10-15 minutes, strain the broth and refrigerate the soup. IT should look like a jelly after. Scoop out a cup each day, microwave, and drink it for healthier gut, skin, and joints.

Chicken is a good source of collagen too, especially its feet, skin, and breastbone. Chicken is extremely rich in type II collagen which helps support youthful-looking skin, bone function, and helps relieve arthritis. Boosts your collagen production by eating chicken thighs, legs, and other parts covered in its skin. Make sure to save those chicken bones so you can make collagen-rich chicken bone broth!
Fish contains type I collagen which is most abundant in humans and is said to be the best type of collagen for the skin. Experts have suggested that our type I collagen starts to decrease when we’re only 25! Here are some fish and shellfish that are high in collagen:
Egg whites are high in both glycine and proline — amino acids that are essential for collagen production. Eating eggs is great for the skin. It also helps with regeneration of cells that keep the skin vibrant and glowing. A perfect snack or breakfast, eggs are versatile and can be cooked boiled, fried, or poached. No matter how you cook them, make sure to get eggs in your diet for healthy, smooth skin!
Animal organs might sound unappealing… But they’re highly nutritious and the benefits definitely outweigh the “yuck” factor. It is rich in minerals iron and zinc, and vitamins A, D, E, and K. They’re full of protein and collagen and provide a lot of health and skin benefits. According to some research, organ meat has 1-3 times more collagen than muscle meat. They include liver, kidney, tongue, heart, and brain from pork, beef, or chicken.
Supplementing with collagen powder is another good alternative to get collagen in your diet. Collagen powders are commonly made from the skin and bones of chickens, pigs, cattle, fish, or eggshells. There are different types of collagens and have different skin and health benefits for the body. Type I and Type III, for example, are best known for improving skin elasticity and overall skin health, while Type II collagen provides joint and muscle support.
Check out this collagen peptide powder from Havasu Nutrition! It contains Collagen Type I and III for fighting off wrinkles and early signs of aging. It also contains probiotics to improve digestion and keep your gut healthy. For skin and joint pain, we recommend using Vitauthority Multi Collagen Peptides which contains Hyaluronic Acid, Vitamin C , and Collagen Types I, II, III, V and X.
One surprising thing about berries is that they help encourage collagen synthesis. Berries contain Vitamin C, a powerful antioxidant that helps protect the skin from UV ray damage. Eating berries such as strawberries, blueberries, and blackberries can also contribute to protecting the skin from developing wrinkles and skin damage.
Broccoli contains vitamin C which boosts the natural production of collagen in our body. The antioxidant in this vegetable helps fight external aggressors that can damage the skin and prevent inflammation. You can eat your broccoli by boiling or steaming it. You may also fry it and add a few garlic cloves, lemon, and red pepper flakes for extra flavor.
Studies suggest that sterolins (fats in plants and vegetables) can help increase collagen in our skin. Avocado is also rich in omega-3 and vitamin E, both are beneficial in protecting the skin from free radicals and maintain its healthy state.
Beans such as chickpeas contain amino acids that help in collagen synthesis. String beans and kidney beans, on the other hand, also help keep the skin healthy by producing hyaluronic acid that is involved in reducing skin scarring and wrinkles.
Citrus fruits are a no-shocker when it comes to keeping your skin healthy and glowing. Citrus fruits are rich in Vitamin C and help lysine and proline turn into collagen. They are fantastic in preserving and improving skin elasticity. Make a habit of eating oranges, lemons, limes, grapefruit, and other citrus fruits to keep your skin healthy and glowing.
Another vitamin C-rich fruit that helps in the natural production of collagen in our body is bell peppers. Bell peppers add delicious flavor to your food—and they’re great for your skin!
Red and green veggies help boost collagen production. Some contain chlorophyll, a powerful antioxidant that helps increase collagen in our bodies. Looking for skin approve vegetables? Check out our list below!
As we age, we’re most likely losing the collagen in our bodies that protect our joint and bone health, healthy skin, and more. Supplementing with collagen or eating collagen rich food can help restore your youthful glow and prevent your skin from aging prematurely. Eating foods such as bone broth, chicken, fish, berries, and green vegetables ensure that your body has the amount of collagen to keep your hair, skin, and joints healthy.

Skin investment is a trend that means putting effort into your skin health by investing in skincare products or by undergoing surgical or non-surgical skin procedures. The rising popularity of skin-vestment shows that people are more skin, health and appearance-conscious than ever. With the rise of social media, people are more aware of the permanent damaging effects of neglecting their skin health. This brought a sudden interest in skincare products and cosmetics that promise to give your skin a youthful and healthy glow.
But investing in your beauty products is not only for aesthetic reasons. Our skin is the body's largest organ body, and its main role is to act as a barrier and protect us from environmental stressors, toxins, and infections. Moreover, having great skin can give you a sense of satisfaction and improve emotional and mental health. To know more why you need to invest in our beauty products, read below!
Don’t you just hate it when you have an important event to go to and suddenly you wake up in the morning with a pimple or an acne breakout? Or when you feel unattractive because you see how dull, tired, and aging your skin is? It is human nature to feel self-conscious especially if you feel like people are staring at you; all you want to do is to be invisible and blend in with the surroundings. Investing in a good skincare routine can help gain your confidence back.
Glowing skin can make you feel beautiful and boost your self-esteem by fighting insecurities while you are suffering from poor skin health. Sporting healthy skin can make you more likely to engage in a social situation knowing that your past skin insecurities no longer affect you. Compliments from others can also make you feel good about yourself. So, start practicing self-love and take care of your skin to boost your confidence. Check out these articles on how you can do that:
Preventing skin issues to arise is better than waiting for skin damage to happen. Our skin is our first line of defense against bacteria and other external stressors. Due to frequent exposure to the sun, our skin can easily get sun damaged and show early signs of aging. UV (ultraviolet) light can cause cellular damage and photoaging — frequent and long sun exposure can cause you to develop wrinkles, fine lines, and hyperpigmentation. One thing you can do to prevent sun damage is to use sunscreen daily.
According to the skin cancer foundation, 90 percent of changes to the skin are caused by direct sun exposure. Additionally, using sunscreen not only can help prevent skin cancer but also be used as an anti-aging weapon and defense from photoaging.
Use at least SPF (Sun Protection Factor) 30 daily and apply every 3-4 hours especially if you will be under the sun for a long time.
The skin helps your body ward off diseases by fighting bacteria from entering your skin and body. The skin also supports the immune system by alerting it of potential pathogen threats. The skin is a host of different good and bad bacteria known as skin microbiota. A balanced skin microbiota is essential in ensuring optimal skin function. So how can you make sure that you have a balanced skin microbiome? Here are some ways:
Investing in skincare and beauty products can help slow down photoaging. As you may know, photoaging is caused by UV damage and can cause premature aging. Although you cannot completely reverse the effects of photoaging, you can take the steps necessary to prevent it.
Vitamin C is a powerful antioxidant that can help reduce the signs of aging such as wrinkles, dark spots, and fine lines. When applied to the skin as a serum, it can help minimize the appearance of blemishes and give you a natural healthy glow. Check out Pure Biology Vitamin C serum here.
You may also try adding vitamin supplements to your diet to keep your skin and body healthy inside out. Here are some of our favorites:
What skincare products can give you a healthy glow? Keeping a skincare routine can help rejuvenate dull and tired skin. When choosing a skincare product, make sure to avoid harsh chemicals and products with parabens and sulfates. Here is our simple skincare routine:
Step 1: Start with a gentle face cleanser. Try to double cleanse, especially if you wear make-up a lot. (Read more about double cleansing here.)
Step 2: Apply a hydrating toner to restore the skin’s natural pH balance.
Step 3: Apply Vitamin C serum for antiaging
Step 4: Keep your undereye bright and less puffy by removing dark circles with Pure Biology Total Eye Cream.
Step 5: Apple a gentle moisturizer with ceramides to keep your skin supple and soft.
Step 6: Use facial oil for extra hydration

Fall season is the end of the hot summer days in favor of the upcoming cooler months. It is also the time when trees shed their leaves to conserve water and energy. Similarly, your skin changes during the fall season and needs your help to adapt to the changing weather. You might be wondering; how can the weather change affect your skin? The drop in humidity can cause skin dryness and cracks (and sometimes can cause a disrupted skin barrier). The hot dry air can also be a culprit for the emergence of different skin issues such as clogged pores, flakey skin, sunspots, dull and sensitive skin, eczema, psoriasis, and dry lips. Some of these are symptoms of what we call “autumn skin”.
Bulking up on moisture is the key to surviving a cold and dry season. Switch up your lightweight moisturizer into a thick one with ceramides. Ceramides creates a skin barrier to stop moisture loss and protects the it from different external aggressors and allergens.
Another way to combat dryness and flakey skin is to use a humidifier to help increase moisture in the air. Autumn weather can be tricky; the chilly air can be very dry when inside the room and combined with the heater can cause skin dehydration. Another thing to note is that when the air is dry, it can draw moisture from the skin causing it to get dehydrated. A humidified can help bring back moisture to the air and keep your skin hydrated.
Our skin continuously sheds itself on a daily basis for new healthy skin cells to immerse. However, there are times when it needs our help in the skin renewal process. We all know that during cooler months, our skin tends to get dull and clogged. Using gentle exfoliants and exfoliation techniques can aid in removing dead skin cells for brighter healthy skin. One thing to make sure though is not to over-exfoliate to avoid skin from drying.
When choosing an exfoliant, pick one that can boost hydration and moisture to the skin. Use acids such as AHA (Alpha Hydroxy Acids) or BHA (Beta Hydroxy Acids) once or twice a week only. When exfoliating the body, use a gentle body scrub with probiotics to assist in balancing the skin’s microbiome and prevent wrinkles and dry skin. Check out this Probiotics Body Scrub from Pure Biology on Amazon!
Formulated with Probiotics, Kombucha, Shea Butter, Sea Salt, and Collagen to gently exfoliate and boost skin radiance.
Don’t be fooled that you only need to use sunscreen during summer. UV rays are present and cause premature aging and damage even in the evening or any season — yes, it’s present during fall and winter too! Use at least SPF 50+ when going out and at least SPF 30+ when indoors. Reapply every 4 hours to keep your skin from developing hyperpigmentation and age spots.
Ramp up your moisturization game by adding skin oils and hydrating serums to your routine! Once you turn on the heater, your skin might feel dry and dehydrated. Sometimes, moisturizer is not enough and therefore needing a sidekick that can do the job just as much. Most serums contain tiny molecules that can reach deeper into the skin and provide moisture. Massage a few drops of facial oil or serum to your skin after applying a moisturizer to combat dry autumn skin.
Taking a hot shower can be very relaxing and can help relieve muscle and joint pain. However, as much as you would love to keep having hot showers, too much extreme heat can dry out the skin. Taking a hot bath can strip the natural oils of your skin leaving it dry and irritated. Keep your water temperature at 41 degree Celsius or immediately moisturize to prevent skin from getting dehydrated.
The indoor heating at night can make your skin feel dry in the morning. Transepidermal water loss (water evaporates through the skin) also happens at night and can trigger eczema and rosacea. One way to avoid waking up with dry and flaky skin in the morning is to use an overnight mask that can hydrate and moisturize your skin all throughout the night.
Look for an overnight facial mask with humectants such as glycerin and hyaluronic acid. Humectants keep the skin hydrated and refreshed by drawing in moisture from the air. Read more about that in this article. Alternatively, you can also give facial slugging a chance. Facial slugging is a skincare technique of coating your skin with a thick occlusive like petroleum jelly to prevent transepidermal water loss. Our article about facial slugging explains it more in-depth (read here).
Check out this Pure Biology Night Cream with Hyaluronic Acid, Retinol, Vitamin E, and Ceramides!
Our lips are the thinnest skin of the body and can easily get dry and cracked. To keep your lips plump and moisturized, swipe a lip balm at night to treat chapped lips. Never wake up with cracked lips again with this M3 Naturals Lip Butter with Collagen & Stem Cell.
Evaluating your skincare needs and making changes in your routine is essential every season. The change in temperature and humidity can affect how your skin reacts to the weather change. During colder months such as fall and winter, the skin tends to get drier and dehydrated. Moisture is the key and answer to keeping it healthy and from developing early signs of aging such as wrinkles and fine lines. Simple changes in your skincare routine can greatly benefit your skin. Pay attention to what it needs and help your skin adapt to the changes.

The gut is the gastrointestinal tract that starts from the mouth to the esophagus, stomach, small intestine, colon, rectum, and anus. It is responsible for breaking down the food we eat and absorbing nutrients to provide us with energy for us to maintain a healthy body function. Apart from that, it also helps achieve healthy skin, balances hormones, and excretes toxins. This earns it a powerhouse part of the body. Read on to find out why it should be a priority.
Believe it or not, gut health should be your number one priority. Why? Because almost everything in your body is connected to your gut health, and it plays a vital role in your overall well-being — from balanced digestive function, strong immune system, and improved mental health. You might be wondering how they are linked together when they have contrasting body functions.
Around 70-80 percent of your immune cells are present in the gut, thus, why the gut and immune system are closely linked together. An imbalance of good and bad bacteria in your gut can cause dysbiosis which can lead to different stomach and autoimmune issues such as IBS (Irritable Bowl Syndrome), acid reflux, heartburn, Crohn's, lupus, and many more.
But how can the gut be connected to your mental health? According to Harvard Health, unhealthy gut may contribute to anxiety, stress, and depression. This is because the gut sends signals to the brain when something is wrong and vice versa. This explains why you may sometimes feel nauseous and experience stomach pain when you feel highly anxious and stressed. A perfect example of this is when you feel nervous about a presentation, and you start feeling a distressing pain in your stomach. Another thing to note is that the gut microbiome can regulate happy hormones that help your body produce serotonin and improve your mood while decreasing anxiety.
When you say someone has a “leaky gut”, it means that that person has intestinal permeability. Meaning there is a leakage of bacteria and toxins in the bloodstream. This can cause inflammation and different autoimmune conditions. Some of the symptoms of this are fatigue, bloating, food sensitivity, or skin issues. This phenomenon, however, is not a recognized medical diagnosis and medical practitioners consider this as a symptom rather than a condition.
Frequent gas, bloating, constipation, diarrhea, stomach pain, and other stomach issues can be a sign that your gut is having a tough time processing food. It may also be a symptom of leaky gut syndrome or IBS.
Food intolerance is also one of the signs of an unhealthy gut. People with food sensitivities have poor quality of good and bad bacteria and struggle to process or break down food — making them prone to indigestion, bloating gas, and abdominal pain.
Studies have suggested that a diet consisting of high sugar and processed food can reduce the number of good bacteria and increase bad bacteria in your gut which can result in an imbalance. Not only does high consumption of sugar disrupt the intestinal barrier, but it can also cause diabetes and cardiovascular disease.
Some studies suggest that the microbiome is linked to obesity and is related to the production of hunger hormones which tell you when you feel hungry or full. An imbalance of good and bad bacteria can make your gut fail to absorb and digest food and nutrients.
You already know that the gut and the brain have a close connection between them. Different gut problems can trigger anxiety and abrupt mood swings.
The gut microbiome has a huge impact in your autoimmune system and poor gut health can trigger autoimmune conditions such as lupus, type 1 diabetes, multiple sclerosis, and ulcerative colitis.
Experts suggest that good bacteria in your gut is linked to having good sleep while bad bacteria is linked with poor sleep. However, limited studies have been conducted to completely confirm this theory. One thing to note though is that melatonin, the sleep hormone, is produced in the gut and brain.
Leaky gut syndrome may cause rashes, breakouts, and other common skin conditions such as eczema, and psoriasis. A damaged and inflamed gut can quickly reflect on the skin's health through acne and skin inflammations. Glowing skin cannot only be achieved by taking care of it on the outside, the inside cleansing of the body and gut is also essential to prevent acne and protect the skin.
Probiotics are plant fibers that help cultivate a healthy gut bacteria that can boost immune function and digestive health. Some probiotics rich foods are:
Why not try a probiotics and prebiotics supplement? These 60 vegetarian capsules from Havasu Nutrition are formulated with 20 billion CFU per serving for optimal gut health. Check it out here.
Taking time to chew your food helps with better digestion and weight loss. It also makes you reduce your caloric intake because the gut hormones that are responsible for feeling full increase, making you eat less. Smaller bites can also help you digest food better. Moreover, studies have shown that adding fiber to your diet can help keep the gut microbiome healthy. Fiber can help in digestion and relieve constipation. It also assists in waste and toxins excretion. However, too much fiber can cause gas, bloating, and intestinal blockage so make sure to keep it at a balanced level. Some high fiber foods are:
Getting a good night's rest can help balance your stress hormones and prevent you from developing the leaky gut syndrome. A study in 2019 suggests that a diverse microbiome can help promote healthier sleep.
Sugar can cause a gut bacterial imbalance, so make sure to avoid too much-processed food and control your sugar intake. Eat prebiotic and probiotic foods to reduce gut inflammation. Add whole grains and fiber to your diet.
Destressing and stress management can lower the chances of developing GI issues and gut inflammation. Take a quick trip to the beach or find a relaxing hobby to keep you away from too much stress and help you heal yourself.
According to John Hopkins Medicine, smoking can have a harmful effect on your gut health. Smoking can cause ulcers that cause painful sores in the intestine’s lining. It also may cause heartburn and weaken the sphincter and may be at risk for gastroesophageal reflux disease or GERD. Quitting smoking is the best course for maintaining a healthy gut health.

Most of us put all our focus on our skincare and haircare routine that we tend to forget that scalp care is just as important. Similar to the skin on our face, our scalp is also prone to aging and UV damage. A surprising fact is that the scalp ages 12 times faster than the skin in our body and 6 times faster than the skin in our face. Although the scalp will not show wrinkles like what we see in our facial skin, the scalp can become thin and lose its elasticity over time which can then lead to hair loss, thinning, or damaged hair follicles.
But what does it really do and why is it important?
A healthy scalp is vital in cultivating a healthy environment for the hair follicles to grow and continue to flourish. There are a few scalp treatments that target different scalp issues, but the best treatments can help restore moisture to dry scalp while also help in balancing the natural oils of the scalp. Check out below the most common scalp issues and tips to achieving a healthy scalp.
Those white flakes on your scalp called dandruff can be embarrassing especially if they get so bad that they start to fall on your clothes every time you scratch your head. However, you are not the only one who suffers from it. According to research, almost 50 percent of the adult population suffers from dandruff and it’s more common than you think. Fortunately, it is not contagious, but it can be uncomfortable and itchy.
Dandruff is caused by too much oil and yeast buildup that causes skin cells to shed and flake. Here are the common causes of dandruff:
Check out below how for DIY treatments.
Dry scalp happens when your hair loses water causing it to dry, flake, and itch. But how is it different from dandruff? With dry scalp, the main cause is the lack of moisture while for dandruff, the main cause is too much oil and yeast growth. They often get confused together because they show almost the same effect. What are the common causes of dry scalp? Check out below:
Hair and scalp nightmare? Head lice and ringworms can cultivate in your scalp if you do not take proper care of your scalp health. Head lice are tiny insects on the scalp that suck and feed on blood. They usually grow 2-3 mm long and lay eggs to multiply. It can be very itchy and when left untreated can affect the scalp’s health and its ability to grow healthy hair.
Another scalp nightmare is ringworm or tinea capitis. This is caused by fungal infection and can cause bald patches. Some of the symptoms are red scaly rash, itchiness, round red pimple-like patches. Just like head lice, they can be very contagious.
Treatment for these scalp nightmares varies from over-the-counter antifungal medication, topical creams, antifungal shampoos, or at home remedies. It is best to consult with your doctor quickly if you see symptoms of ringworms and head lice.
Scalp folliculitis or the inflammation of hair follicles is a sin condition that is called by yeast or ingrown hair. They look like red bumps that can be very itchy and sometimes painful. There are several types of folliculitis:
If you see signs of pus, skin lesions, or inflammation, please consult your dermatologist for diagnosis and medication.
How do you take care of your scalp? Here are some tips and ways to do so at the comforts of your home:
A scalp massage brush has many hair and scalp benefits such as:
How to use it:
Wet hair and apply a hair cleanser or shampoo then use the scalp brush in a circular motion in gentle pressure. Do this 3-4 times a week. We recommend this gentle silicone brush from M3 Naturals that has a multi-functional use as a scalp scrubber and cellulite exfoliating brush.
Salicylic acid is a BHA skincare product that can also be used to treat dandruff and seborrheic dermatitis. It works by exfoliating the scalp and get rid of excess oil and product buildup, kill bacteria, and reduce itchiness.
How to use it:
Apply salicylic acid on scalp and leave it on for 10 minutes then use a gentle shampoo. Do not use more than twice a week.
A controlled trial has shown that rosemary is as effective as minoxidil in helping hair growth. Other studies also suggested that rosemary helps with controlling and treating dandruff. When using rosemary oil, make sure to dilute it with carrier oil like coconut oil or jojoba oil to avoid irritation. You may also make a rosemary rinse at home using the following:
Instructions:
1. Add 5 rosemary leaves into 5 cups of boiling water

A long road trip can only be comfy if you are well prepared. To do that, here is a self-care checklist to survive a long trip:
You won't know if the next bathroom stop at the gas station has toilet paper or wipes! Or if you’ll have access to shampoo and soap, be sure to add these items to your toiletry bag:
Yes, it’s a road trip. But that does not mean you should slack on your skincare. Even if you can’t do your normal 10-step skincare routine, be sure to pack the most important basic skincare needs like these:
Traveling can change the skin especially if it is a dry and humid day. Your skin tends to produce more sebum and be more exposed to dust and dirt. These can cause clogging of the pores and skin dehydration. So do not sleep on your skincare!
Keeping yourself hydrated is the key to pull through a long hot road trip. Did you know that dehydration can affect your driving? Yes, it can cause double vision, fatigue, dry eyes, and blurred vision that can pose danger on the road. Keep a water bottle near you or a cool drink to hydrate. Drinking plenty of water will also ensure that your skin will be well hydrated.
You won’t know what can happen during a road trip. You might get food stains on your clothes, or your shoes might be uncomfortable during the ride. It is better to be ready and have a change of clothes or a flip-flop you can use to switch in. If you suddenly had an impromptu stop on the beach, a flipflop or sandals can come in handy.
You’re in for the long haul! To avoid being traumatized from a lengthy road, pack these comfort products that will keep you comfy and relaxed (especially if you are the designated passenger).
What’s a little self-care without snacking on the road? Listening to music while eating your favorite snack is the most simple and relaxing thing you can experience during a road trip. Yes, most snacks available in store are unhealthy but there’s nothing wrong with treating yourself to a cheat day once in a while. Here are some of our favorite healthy and cheat day road trip snacks:
Let’s hope you won’t need to use a first aid kit or a self-defense item but it’s better to be prepared than to be sorry. Some self-defense items are:
If you are going into the wild, there are kits you can buy with survival gear and first aid supplies that would be helpful and keep you safe.
Here are what you should check on your car before going on a long ride to prevent accidents and keep your car running for a long road trip:

The classic beach hairstyle is the soft beach wave. This was introduced and made popular by Victoria Secret angels that strutted down the runway to show off their best swimwear. But it was later tweaked and restyled by beauty gurus to give it a little toss and a well-styled messy effect of salt and wind in the hair from walking on the beach all day.

If you’re anything like us you’ve invested in your hair and skin routine, so you don’t want one beach trip to ruin all your efforts. So how do you protect your hair and skin while looking cute and beach-ready? – by accessorizing with a hat. (a bucket hat is our favorite for this look)
Start by sectioning your hair into two parts and braiding both sides. Pull pieces of strands from the brain to loosen it up a bit and give it a messy winded hair vibe. Finish your look with a cute hat and some accessories. Hats can keep your skin protected from being too exposed from the sun and it can help shield your scalp from getting sunburn.

Is there a rash in the area? Did it recently darken due to dry skin caused by eczema or other chronic skin conditions?
Check what is causing the darkening of the area and treat the underlying cause of the problem. Rashes are the most common cause of hyperpigmentation and darkening of the skin. This inflammation can be itchy, red, dry, and flaky. While other chronic skin conditions such as Eczema, Psoriasis, and Rosacea may also cause darkening of the underarms if scratched and not treated. It is best to heal the cause of it first before skipping to the brightening stage.
Here are some other causes of inflammation and hyperpigmentation:
Exfoliating can help lighten underarms but be careful not to overdo it! Scrubbing roughly can cause irritation and may worsen the problem area. Instead, scrub lightly with Pure Biology Turmeric Body Scrub and glide onto the skin mildly. The sea salt beads help exfoliate dead skin cells and the turmeric ingredient helps lighten dark marks.
Chemical exfoliants are also a good method of lightening dark underarms. Some of the most popular OTC chemical exfoliants to lighten your armpits are lactic, glycolic, and salicylic acids. Retinol and niacinamide are also recommended. However, make sure to patch test before using any acids and be careful of mixing products together.
Shaving can irritate the skin and cause darkening. Never shave with dry skin or the blade can damage the outmost layer of the skin that can lead to darkening of the underarms. Instead, use a shaving cream or a moisturizer to make the razor blades glide smoothly on the surface. Be sure to use new and sharp razors. If you are allergic to razor metals or want to opt-in to other methods, you may try getting laser hair removal or waxing.
Deodorants with fragrances can cause irritation and allergic reactions in some people. Check the ingredients and stay away from those with strong scents. Consider switching to a deodorant without sodium bicarbonate, propylene glycol, or parabens, since these can often irritate sensitive skin.
Check-in with your dermatologist so they can identify the root cause of your underarm darkening. They will be able to provide you with a prescription or an in-office procedure to help lighten and brighten your underarms. Check out this article on how you can find the right dermatologist.

Sunburn is an inflamed skin caused by too much exposure from the Ultraviolet radiation of the sun. This feels painful to touch and may cause redness, peeling, or flaking. In serious cases, it can result in pus, infection, vomiting, or numbness. Symptoms may include redness, pain, tenderness, swelling, fever, headache, vomiting, itchiness, blisters, and pus. This usually appears a few hours after extreme exposure to the sun and may take several days to heal.
A serious case of sunburn needs a physician’s professional assessment. But if you suffered from a minor or a less serious sunburn, here is the best way to treat it or at least calm down the stinging pain.
Take a cold bath or shower to cool down and provide instant relief from the burning sensation but be careful not to overdo it since cold bath can also dry the skin. As an alternative, you may also try an oatmeal bath to soothe sunburned areas. Oatmeal is a natural moisturizer that helps with sunburn, eczema, or dry inflamed skin. It works by easing pain and itchiness discomfort while also hydrating the skin and providing lost moisture. How do you make an oatmeal bath? Follow these steps:
Step 1: Take one cup of colloidal oatmeal or finely ground oatmeal and sprinkle it into lukewarm water in a tub.
Step 2: Mix it until the water turns milky white in color.
Step 3: Get in the tub and soak in for 15-30 minutes and gently pat dry. Make sure not to rub your skin dry to avoid scratching the skin.

Apply aloe vera gel to the sunburnt skin to keep it moisturized and heal dry skin. You may store it in the refrigerator so that it will give you a nice cool sensation when applied. Sunburn can cause itching and another way to soothe itching and peeling is to use a calamine lotion. According to the American Academy of Dermatology, you may also use a non-prescription hydrocortisone cream three times a day for three days.
Blisters may indicate that you have a second-degree burn from the sun. As much as we have the urge to pop or prick it, NEVER do so. Blisters is your skin’s way of healing and protecting itself from being exposed to infection. Peeling blisters can leave you with a scar and dark marks that is hard to remove. If you see a blister, leave it alone unless you see pus coming out from it. Gently clean the area and consult your doctor if you see an abscess.
To reduce pain, you may use a pain reliever such as ibuprofen or acetaminophen. Experts suggested that pain relievers work because our bodies treat sunburn as an injury and inflammation. If it gets extremely itchy, you may take an oral antihistamine. However, be careful with mixing and taking oral medicines at the same time. Some pain relievers already contain antihistamine, so it is best to consult with your doctor before combining oral medications.
Drinking plenty of water ensures that you rehydrate your skin since sunburn removes moisture and fluid from the skin surface. Water and sports drinks can replace lost fluid and electrolytes and prevent your skin from further dehydration.
Anyone who has access to a doctor should get it checked, especially those with serious sunburn to prevent infection.
Immediately call 911 if the person inhibits serious symptoms or loss visual and start seizing. Another thing to watch out for is when the person starts vomiting and feeling nauseous.
If the sunburnt area is severe with blisters, pus, numbing, or when the affected person is under the age of one, immediately consult with your doctor.
